From concept to completion, the stage project for the 18 city national tour of Monster Energy’s “GOONS TAKE AMERICA’ featuring GTA, Scrillex, Dillion Francis, Wax Motif, KCamp, Sweater Beats and Rich the Kid was the most technical project I have directed to date. Featuring custom, real world modular stage design, a three minute cel frame animated cartoon intro complete with sound design, Kinect tracking camera system, custom projection mapping and over 150 visual loops that were produced and mixed live at every venue through Touch Designer software. Our visual show was custom to each venue and DJ / Hip Hop set for each night of the tour. Production workflow included a team of cel animators, custom programming. illustrations and hand done cartoon character development, and a virtual “city” environment built out in Cinima 4D. The feed from the Kinect motion camera system developed for the stage was a strong visual element for the mix where we captured and tracked the artists on stage, processed the feed through effects to turn them into cartoons and projected the morphing figures onto the screens behind the stage in real time.
